Raiders to Discuss Young's Contract Soon

The Raiders plan contract talks for Hudson Young, a reliable second-rower, as he approaches free agency this November.

    LeagueNews.co

The Canberra Raiders are preparing to initiate discussions regarding a long-term contract extension for Hudson Young in the upcoming weeks.

Over the last year, Young has established himself as one of the top and, crucially, most reliable second-rowers in the NRL.

Previously recognized for occasional disciplinary issues on the field, he has now stepped up as a leader within the Raiders' ranks. It's anticipated that Young will likely secure a starting spot for the NSW Blues when Laurie Daley announces his squad for Game 1 of the 2026 State of Origin series on Monday morning.

Currently, Young's contract expires at the end of 2027, which means he could enter the free-agent market on November 1 if an agreement with the Raiders is not reached by that time.

  • Raiders duo in line for Origin call-up as selection headache looms for Ricky

Canberra Raiders fans anticipate State of Origin selections, but injuries and player call-ups complicate coach Ricky Stuart's lineup decisions.

    The Canberra Times

When State of Origin rolls around each year, every Canberra Raiders fan eagerly awaits which of their favourite players they can cheer for - or against - in the mate-versus-mate battle royale.

But while the Raiders are set to celebrate two star players being named for the Origin opener at Homebush next Wednesday, their inclusion presents another selection headache for coach Ricky Stuart.

Five-eighth Ethan Strange is expected to be named on the NSW Blues' six-man bench for game one in Sydney, with his versatility, physical playing style and electric form earning him a call-up from coach Laurie Daley.

Back-rower Hudson Young is also predicted to be part of the Blues squad, as he's continued to be a consistent game-changer at club level.

  • Hudson Young to begin negotiations over future

Hudson Young to begin negotiations over future

The Canberra Raiders will negotiate a long-term contract with Hudson Young, a top second-rower and potential NSW Blues starter.

    Zero Tackle

The Canberra Raiders are set to kick off talks with Hudson Young in the coming weeks over a long-term contract extension.

Young has become one of the best - and more importantly most consistent - second-rowers in the NRL over the last 12 or so months.

While he formerly was known for the occasional discipline issue on field, Young has become a leader at the Raiders, and the second-rower will likely be a walk up starter for the NSW Blues when Laurie Daley named his squad for Game 1 of the 2026 State of Origin series on Monday morning.

Young is currently off-contract at the end of 2027, meaning he could hit the open market from November 1 if the Raiders don't manage to do a deal by then.
