    An injury crisis has hit some of the leading premiership contenders at the worst time of year and it threatens to overshadow week one of the NRL finals.

    As many as 24 players across the eight finals teams are either out for the season or are racing to play a part in the playoffs.

    In Friday night's Melbourne blockbuster alone, the Storm and Bulldogs will be missing as many as seven players through injury and suspension.

    Canberra Raiders fans in Antarctica pledged to follow their team's season and have succeeded.

    In January, Canberra Raiders fans working in Antarctica spoke to CD exclusively about their vow to follow their team's entire season.

    CD recently caught up with the tradesmen - Canberran Mark Green and Cameron Griffin, who has ties to the nation's capital through his family - via video chat to see if they kept to their promise. And yes, they have.

    "Yes. We haven't missed one game," Cameron said.

    His hope ahead of the season was for Jamal Fogarty to stay injury-free "because we need a halfback". For the most part, that's been true. Fogarty has missed just one match, sidelined in round 13 with a minor groin injury.

    Adam Reynolds is talking up his hopes of featuring in Brisbane's qualifying final with Canberra as Raiders captain Joe Tapine looks to put a fresh target on Broncos poster boy Reece Walsh.

    Reynolds has been sidelined for the last month with hamstring issues and said he would make a call on his fitness on Tuesday.

    The veteran playmaker was confident he could line up for coach Michael Maguire against the minor premiers at GIO Stadium on Sunday.
