Jayden Brailey set for early Raiders exit to link up with Sydney club

Jayden Brailey will join Wests Tigers in 2027 after struggling for a starting role at Canberra Raiders.

    Zero Tackle

Canberra Raiders dummy half and middle forward Jayden Brailey is set to shift to the Wests Tigers at the start of 2027.

The versatile forward joined the Raiders at the start of this year on a two-year deal, but hasn't found a permanent spot in his preferred dummy half position in Ricky Stuart's set up.

Instead, he has been forced to battle for minutes against rising star Owen Pattie and veteran Tom Starling, who himself has lost minutes to the young gun.

Brailey has instead spent time at lock forward, where his ball playing has been important for Canberra at times this year.

  • 'I gave him a decision': Ricky reveals the injury choice his young star had to make

Matty Nicholson faced a decision: return through NSW Cup or test his shoulder in the NRL after a four-month rehab.

    The Canberra Times

Matty Nicholson had a choice to make.

He could test his rebuilt shoulder out for the first time in four months by easing his way back through NSW Cup.

Or he could bite the bullet and test it out in the NRL.

Nicholson hadn't played since round one when he re-injured his shoulder playing NSW Cup - having initially hurt it during the Canberra Raiders' trials.

Coach Ricky Stuart acknowledges Nathan Cleary's threat as Canberra prepares to face Penrith, aiming to secure finals hopes despite previous defeats.

    The Canberra Times

Coach Ricky Stuart says the looming threat of Nathan Cleary hasn't been spoken about inside Canberra's four walls despite them needing to stop the star halfback from inflicting further misery on their season.

The Raiders will be looking to keep their finals hopes intact with a win against NRL premiership favourites Penrith in Mudgee on Saturday.

Despite the talk about whether another 'Miracle of Mudgee' can happen after fullback Kaeo Weekes scored a runaway golden-point try to beat the Panthers last season, Stuart is adamant they aren't looking back.

But he will have to consider Cleary, who missed a field goal in that game but then produced a masterclass against Canberra in round 10 to help the Panthers claim a 30-18 victory.
