Adam Doueihi hasn't formally requested his release from the Wests Tigers, but it wouldn't be surprising if he does in the near future.
This weekend, the halfback and utility player will be missing the match against the Canberra Raiders after Benji Marshall informed him he wouldn't be starting in the number seven jersey. Instead, the club has opted to give a debut to Javon Andrews.
While this decision was unexpected, Doueihi's choice to sit out is more significant.
Currently, he is under contract until 2029, having signed an extension earlier this year. Despite his evident skills, his injury history and the club's commitment to him during prolonged absences make this situation quite precarious.

Doueihi, Tigers to hold crisis meeting over future
Wests Tigers' Adam Doueihi to meet after withdrawing from Saturday's game due to dissatisfaction with his selection decision.

The Wests Tigers and Adam Doueihi will hold a crisis meeting at some point between now and Monday to clear the air after another tumultuous week at Concord.
Doueihi was expected to play on Saturday afternoon against the Canberra Raiders on the road after beating the judiciary on Tuesday evening, but ultimately pulled out of the game after being left less than impressed with a selection decision from Benji Marshall.
In that, Doueihi was told he would either play at lock or come off the bench in the game against the Raiders, while Jarome Luai, who leaves the club at the end of the year and has been in poor form, would be left to partner rookie Javon Andrews in the halves.
That caused Doueihi to walk out of training and elect to make himself unavailable for this weekend's game, with the club agreeing he wasn't in the headspace to play.

Raiders get boost for home clash as contentious ref calls questioned

Canberra Raiders coach Darrin Borthwick was sweating when Charlotte Basham copped a nasty hip-drop tackle in last weekend's heartstopping loss to the Roosters.
He was especially nervous when Basham limped off the field and didn't return to the game, and then frustration emerged when the Roosters player guilty of the foul play was not sin-binned.
It led to the coach dishing out criticism towards the referees that he felt missed the mark in a game with more than a few contentious calls.
Borthwick has ridden the emotional rollercoaster with every step of Basham's ordeal this past week, but the Raiders received a boost on Friday, with the back-rower cleared to play the Cronulla Sharks in their home clash on Saturday.
