Fans unite for the Raiders; now, let's support heart health and remember the importance of quick action in emergencies.

    The Canberra Times

On Thursday night, as the Raiders run out onto GIO Stadium, thousands of fans will rise to their feet for the famous Viking Clap. It's a moment of unity, pride and power and a reminder of what this community can achieve when it comes together.

This week, the Heart Foundation is asking Canberrans to bring that same energy to something else that deserves our roar of support: our heart health.

Cardiovascular disease claims around 500 lives in the ACT each year. That's 500 families changed forever by something that is, in many cases, preventable. Despite this, too many of us put our heart health on the bench, pushed aside by busy schedules, work, family and the belief that serious heart issues only happen to someone else.

No one understands this more than 16-year-old Raiders fan, Rory Pittman. Last year, while playing basketball in Queanbeyan, Rory went into sudden cardiac arrest.

Tom Starling plans to provide sick notes for kids missing school after the Canberra Raiders' game, aiming to boost attendance despite the late start.

    The Canberra Times

If ever Tom Starling wanted to run for King of the Kids, this was the perfect audition.

The Canberra Raiders hooker has vowed to sign sick notes for any children who miss school on Friday after being out late at Canberra Stadium on Thursday night.

Canberra's clash with the Canterbury Bulldogs is not in the best time slot for families with children - late on a school night.

But Starling had a cheeky solution to help get a big crowd to the Raiders' first home game of the season.

Warriors confirm extent of Capewell’s warm-up injury, provide update on concussed duo

Kurt Capewell injured his calf, sidelining him for four weeks; Leka Halasima will replace him in upcoming matches.

    Zero Tackle

The New Zealand Warriors have confirmed Kurt Capewell picked up a calf injury during the warm-up for last Friday's clash with the Canberra Raiders.

The Origin-experienced veteran was a late withdrawal for the Auckland-based side, with Leka Halasima slotting into the second-row.

It has now been revealed the injury will cost him four weeks of his season, with the versatile forward not due back until Round 6 when the Warriors travel to face the Melbourne Storm in the Victorian capital.

In the meantime, Capewell will miss games against the Newcastle Knights, Wests Tigers and Cronulla Sharks, providing Halasima a chance to recapture his starting role which has been lost to Jacob Laban in the opening weeks of the season, despite his incredible 2025 breakout campaign.
