  • Raiders back set to make Canberra exit as new option looms

Raiders youngster Chevy Stewart arrested, charged by police over alleged incident

Chevy Stewart likely to leave Canberra Raiders post-2026 due to limited first-grade opportunities. Contract extended until 2025.

    Zero Tackle

Canberra Raiders back-up outside back Chevy Stewart seems almost certain to leave the club at the end of the 2026 season.

The 20-year-old has struggled to break into first grade at this early stage of his career in Canberra, and now seems destined to need a move away from Canberra if he is going to do so.

Able to also play on the wing or at centre, Stewart's primary position at the back of the field is under lock and key to Kaeo Weekes.

The former Manly Sea Eagles star, in a tip off of exactly how highly he is viewed by the brass in the nation's capital, had his contract extended twice in the 12 months to the end of the 2025 campaign, and is now locked in long-term to remain in lime green.

Ethan Strange and Ethan Sanders excelled, securing a thrilling Round One win with Sanders' decisive field goal, impressing Billy Slater.

    Zero Tackle

There were some question marks surrounding Ricky Stuart's scheme to deploy two young halves to start their 2026 campaign in the shape of Ethan Strange and Ethan Sanders.

However, the youngster duo proved they are up to the task, dismantling the Sea Eagles in a Round One thriller at Brookvale.

It saw rookie half Ethan Sanders snatch victory with a field goal in extra time with only five NRL appearances under his belt.

It caught the attention of Storm legend Billy Slater, who spoke on the Billy Slater Podcast, claiming the old-school halves tactics of halfback as first receiver and five-eighth playing off the back of him was reminiscent of the Raiders' best-ever halves duo in the 90s.

Rookie Ethan Sanders' extra-time field goal secured the Raiders' victory over the Sea Eagles in Round 1.

    Zero Tackle

Canberra Raiders rookie Ethan Sanders stepped up when his side needed him to in his first appearance as the green machine's chief playmaker for 2026.

Sander's was undisturbed and composed when he slotted a 35-metre field goal in extra time to defeat the Sea Eagles in their Round 1 thriller at Brookvale.

It was also Jamal Fogarty's club debut for the Sea Eagles, who made a highly publicised move from the nation's capital to the Northern Beaches over the summer to fill the void Daly Cherry-Evans left on the peninsula.

Although the youngster was very quick to thank his former mentor for the guidance and teachings he had passed on, as he used that knowledge to sink Fogarty's new side in golden point.
