    And in return the Canberra Raiders captain's helped teach Carney how to be a father.

    They might seem like chalk and cheese - the most controversial the clean-cut Croker's ever been in his 299-game career was sporting blonde tips in his hair as a youngster.

    A few years ago, I remember asking Jarrod Croker whether he was personally impacted by negative commentary on social media.

    He said it didn't affect him at all because he was used to the good-natured banter from his mates.

    In many ways, it provides an insight into the psyche of the Raiders veteran. He's surrounded by mates who are fiercely protective, but at the same time, they ensure that he remains grounded.

    Not that he has shown any signs of getting carried away by his status as an NRL player.

    Horsburgh's right in the Maroons mix for State of Origin following injuries to Jai Arrow (ankle) and Tom Gilbert (shoulder), with game two at Lang Park on June 21.

    The Raiders' clash against the New Zealand Warriors at Canberra Stadium on Friday night will be his last chance to impress Maroons coach Billy Slater before he names his team on Monday.
