    Canberra Raiders shut down Knights approach for forward duo

    Newcastle Knights failed to acquire Canberra Raiders forwards before the June 30 deadline for squad rebuilding.

    The Newcastle Knights have reportedly missed out on landing a Canberra Raiders duo as they attempted to boost their forward stocks before the June 30 deadline.

    Aiming to rebuild their squad as they make a run towards the NRL Finals, the Knights were linked with several players in a potential mid-season switch, including Dylan Brown (Eels) and Tallyn Da Silva (Tigers).

    Reports have now emerged that they were interested in adding another forward to their roster, but a potential mid-season transfer didn't eventuate.

    Maroons skipper Cameron Munster has anointed returning enforcer Josh Papalii "the bodyguard" who will put fear into the Blues as the Queensland legend was told to cut loose in his Origin farewell.

    Papalii landed in Camp Maroon on Wednesday to begin preparations for his 24th and final State of Origin appearance for Queensland.

    The 33-year-old front rower has been called out of representative retirement by Queensland coach Billy Slater for an Origin swansong in next Wednesday's series decider in Sydney.

    NSW Blues training intel: Nathan Cleary and Jarome Luai drill away from main squad

    Injured NSW players Cleary and Luai participated in light drills while teammates trained. No major concerns.

    Injured NSW stars Nathan Cleary and Jarome Luai completed some light drills away from the Blues squad, who trained in Leura on Wednesday for the first time ahead of State or Origin III.

    And teammates Hudson Young (groin), Payne Haas (back) and Brian To'o (knee) also did not train.

    While the remaining squad went through their wrestling routines at Blue Mountains Grammar School, Cleary (groin) and Luai (infection) flung the ball around and simulated some play-the-ball moves between each other.

    To'o and Cleary had their injuries taped up.

    There isn't any major alarm inside the NSW camp...
