    Ricky Stuart reveals player decisions behind selection calls in Tigers win

    Canberra Raiders coach Ricky Stuart involves players in selecting the run-on team each week.

    Canberra Raiders head coach Ricky Stuart has revealed his playing group are now helping him pick his run-on team each week.

    Stuart made the surprise call to have Hudson Young not only play, but start on Friday evening just 48 hours after playing Origin 2 for the New South Wales Blues in Perth.

    While Horsburgh didn't play Origin 2, he was in the Maroons' squad and both he and Young made the nearly five-hour flight back across the continent the day before taking on the Tigers at Campbelltown Sports Stadium.

    Canberra Raiders' Hudson Young and Morgan Smithies face fines but can play against the Knights next Friday.

    Canberra Raiders stars Hudson Young and Morgan Smithies were both charged by the NRL match review committee, but they're free to play the Newcastle Knights next Friday.

    Both Young and Smithies only face fines for separate incidents in the Raiders' 16-12 victory over the Wests Tigers at Campbelltown on Friday night.

    Smithies was charged with grade-one striking for a headbutt on Tigers prop Fonua Pole in the 61st minute of the match.

    The young gun - who is the son of coach Ricky - made his debut after serving as 18th man a number of times in recent weeks, with Savelio Tamale going down with a knee injury last weekend that will leave him sidelined until just weeks out from the finals - a finals series the Raiders are almost locked into with double-digit rounds remaining after their win over the Wests Tigers.
