The Canberra Raiders hope they can bust through the 20,000 membership mark before their first home game as they aim to tap into a new multicultural fan base this year.

The Raiders secured a massive pre-season boost on Friday when they signed a new two-year major sponsorship deal just hours before their official season launch.

But they are waiting for rugby league fever to grip the capital as they prepare to play their first two games of the season on the road for the first time in almost a decade.

Star Gold Coast Titans' second-rower David Fifita could make a decision on his future in the next week before the NRL season gets underway.

The Titans are the reported front-runners to retain the services of the star second-rower, albeit on a much reduced wage to the value of his last contract, which is due to expire at the end of the 2023 campaign.

The Canberra Raiders remain in the mix to secure Fifita's services for 2023 in what could still shape as a package deal alongside his partner Shaylee Bent, who plays in the NRLW - a competition the Raiders are set to enter in 2023, albeit with a yet to be confirmed season structure and start date.

Jordan Rapana of the Canberra Raiders has ruled out the possibility of playing fullback in the absence of Xavier Savage.

Rapana was named at fullback in the absence of Savage (broken jaw) for the Raiders' trial match with the Wests Tigers last Sunday but despite wearing the No. 1 jersey, Rapana remained on the wing.

With Savage ruled out for the Raiders' Round 1 clash with the Cowboys, the opportunity remained for Rapana to take the position - but he declined.
