    Matty Nicholson may have a serious ankle injury, potentially sidelining him until round 20. Scans pending.

    The Canberra Raiders are fearful Matty Nicholson could have suffered a fracture and a syndesmosis injury to his left ankle, which could rule him out until round 20.

    Nicholson suffered the injury in the dying minutes of their heart-breaking 32-20 loss to the Canterbury Bulldogs at Canberra Stadium on Saturday.

    The England international, who has been a revelation since joining the Raiders in the off-season, will go for scans on Monday with more expected to be known that afternoon.

    Canberra's capitulation against Canterbury has come at a massive cost with fears Englishman Matty Nicholson could be facing an extended period on the sidelines.

    Nicholson will be sent for scans on Monday but it's understood that after initial assessments medical staff fear the forward has suffered a fractured fibula and would require surgery.
