‘We were fortunate’: Ricky’s rare Bunker call after huge play rubbed out in golden point thriller

Raiders coach Ricky Stuart praised the Bunker's impact, aiding their 20-18 victory over Storm.

    Fox League

Raiders coach Ricky Stuart has praised the NRL's refereeing shift after the Bunker "pulled up" on retrospective penalties in Magic Round and his side secured a golden point victory.

However, Stuart was of the belief the Bunker made the right call and was happy to see the Bunker's impact on the game eased after weeks of criticism regarding officiating.

Canberra beat the Storm 20-18 after a golden point penalty goal sealed a win, with three huge penalties in the final ten minutes handing Stuart's side the victory.

Ryan Papenhuyzen's 75th minute field goal was rubbed out after the Bunker penalised lock Trent Loiero for an elbow on Canberra captain Joseph Tapine.

At the worst they were highly controversial.

Remarkably, both coaches and clubs had a right to be disappointed although the Storm were no doubt more devastated after three decisions in the dying minutes that crueled their night.

Melbourne's Craig Bellamy accepted responsibility for discipline issues after losing 20-18 to Canberra in golden point.

    Wide World of Sports

Melbourne coach Craig Bellamy refused to blame the officiating for his side's poor discipline, after the Storm were penalised three times while in possession, leaving the door open for a Canberra comeback.

The Storm went down 20-18 in golden point in the final match of Magic Round, after they led 18-12 with five minutes left.

That lead should have gone to seven points and wrapped up the match for Melbourne when fullback Ryan Papenhuyzen kicked a field goal but the referee had other ideas.
