Meninga praises Raiders' win over Eels, noting team learned from previous defeat in Townsville.

Canberra Raiders legend Mal Meninga hailed the Green Machine's dominant 50-12 victory over the Parramatta Eels in Darwin on the weekend as a "smart win", and for good reason.

Just a few weeks ago the Raiders were startled by the extreme humidity and heat in Townsville, and blamed those difficult conditions for their uncharacteristic performance in a 30-20 defeat.

But Meninga - who holds a recruitment and mentoring role at Raiders - noticed that following Canberra's crushing defeat of the Eels on Saturday night, Ricky Stuart's men had learned a thing or two from that experience a fortnight ago in north Queensland.

Manly denies tampering with player, no talks with Fogarty; Stuart offers one-year deal, meeting with management.

Manly have rejected claims from Ricky Stuart they may have breached anti-tampering rules, calling Canberra to insist no talks have begun with Jamal Fogarty.

The race for Fogarty's signature will heat up this week, with the halfback able to talk to rivals and Stuart flying to the Gold Coast to meet with his management.

Stuart confirmed on Saturday night he would offer Fogarty a one-year deal, hopeful he could convince the No.7 not to sign with Manly.

Manly coach denies rule-breaking in pursuit of Fogarty, potential replacement for departing Cherry-Evans.

Manly coach Anthony Seibold insists his club hasn't broken NRL rules in the pursuit of Canberra halfback Jamal Fogarty, adamant he and the club are yet to speak to the off-contract playmaker.

Fogarty has been earmarked as Manly's replacement for Daly Cherry-Evans, who dropped a bombshell on the Sea Eagles when the veteran No. 7 said he was leaving the club at the end of the season.
