Ethan Strange's status as one of the best halves in the competition has been confirmed with the 21-year-old named at five-eighth in the RLPA's players' dream team.

Strange's selection indicates how big of a loss he was for the Raiders in the side's semi-final defeat against the Sharks. The five-eighth had to withdraw due to illness.

The Raiders were unable to attack with the same level of potency as usual and were subsequently steamrolled.

In the 32-12 victory over the Raiders in Saturday night's elimination semi-final, the Sharks demonstrated how vital an effective halves combination is in finals football.

Trindall and Hynes controlled the second half to perfection.

The Raiders, on the other hand, had very little rhythm following the loss of their best attacking weapon, Ethan Strange, on the morning of the final.

It was always going to be a tough assignment following the 95-minute epic and heartbreak against the Broncos the week before, coupled with the fact that eight players in the Raiders lineup were playing in their first finals campaign.

A father-son duo attacked two referees during a Rugby 7s match in Canberra.

Two referees were allegedly attacked by a father and son pair from Western Sydney during a Rugby 7s competition in Canberra on the weekend, including one who was hit from behind in a 'coward' punch.

The incident took place during the junior Rugby 7s tournament held at the Southwell Park playing fields in Lyneham around 3 pm on Sunday (21 September), an ACT Policing spokesperson said.

It is alleged an 18-year-old man and his 42-year-old father, both from Fairfield in NSW, entered the playing fields before the son assaulted one referee.

When a second referee tried to help the first, the father allegedly 'coward' punched the second from behind.
