Heading into the Raiders presentation night after the drama of the day before at Canberra Stadium, there was cause for some uncertainty.

Would the mood be sombre given the emotion of the golden point extra time loss to the Broncos?

To the contrary. The mood was remarkably upbeat.

Perhaps the best indication of the positive vibe of the night came in Joe Tapine's acceptance speech after winning the Meninga Medal, as voted on by his teammates and coaches.

The Broncos made a stunning comeback, defeating the Raiders 29-28 in a controversial golden point.

If ever there was a game to revive memories of the 2019 grand final, this was it.

In a game littered with controversial decisions, the Broncos came from being down 28-12 to defeat the Raiders in golden point 29-28, with a Ben Hunt field goal sealing the victory in one of the wildest games in the history of the NRL.

The Raiders and their supporters believed they had won the game twice to that point, but the charge down on a Reece Walsh field goal attempt was deemed illegal while the bunker also ruled Jed Stuart had knocked the ball on in the tap down for Jamal Fogarty's no try.

Reece Walsh's headbutt on Hudson Young sparks controversy; one calls him "Oscar-worthy."

The fallout has continued from Reece Walsh's headbutt on Hudson Young, with one league great declaring the Raiders star "deserves an Oscar" for the incident.

During the second half of Sunday's qualifying final that saw the Broncos come from behind to win 29-28 in dramatic scenes, both players were given their marching orders by referee Ashley Klein after a brief melee between the teams.

Replays showed that after a Brisbane error, Young got in the face of Walsh and started to sledge him, before the superstar fullback responded by headbutting his opponent.
