Penrith Panthers host Canberra Raiders in Mudgee, reviving their season with key player improvements.

The Penrith Panthers are taking another home game to country NSW as they host the ladder leading Canberra Raiders from Glen Willow Regional Stadium in Mudgee in what shapes to be one of the clashes of the regular season.

The last time Penrith went to a regional venue; it was when the club was at an all-time low (in terms of regular season results over this dynasty) with an embarrassing 25-6 loss to lowly Newcastle in Bathurst. Since then, a switch has seemingly been flicked to turn the tables around on what was a lowly season to be competing for a top four spot. The unheralded left edge of Casey McLean and Tom Jenkins has emerged as one of the bright spots this season, while their forward pack has risen to the challenge along with a return to from of Dylan Edwards and Nathan Cleary.

Lets break that down though - They need to win all of their last 3 games against Souths, Manly and Penrith AND they need the Roosters to lose all of their last 3 games against Parramatta, Melbourne and Souths AND they need the Dolphins to lose all of their last 3 games against Manly, Titans and Canberra AND they need Manly to lose to the Warriors AND they need the Wests Tigers to lose at least one of their last 3 games against the Cowboys, Canberra and Titans…..

Sydney pundits predict the Raiders' downfall, suggesting they lack the performance level of competitors.

Some Sydney-based pundits are already predicting the Raiders' downfall towards the backend of the season and into the finals.

The suggestion is that the Green Machine lacks another gear, whereas Melbourne and the Panthers are capable of elevating their performance to another level.

Mind you, I noticed at least one of the pundits at the start of the season announced the Raiders as favourites to secure the wooden spoon on the back of the departure of Jordan Rapana and Elliott Whitehead.

With the Raiders sitting on the top of the ladder with three rounds to go, nothing could be further from the truth.
