Kieran Foran, the playmaker for the Gold Coast Titans, believes that the team will benefit from the defensive expertise of their new coach, Des Hasler, in the 2024 season.

Foran, who has previously played under Hasler's guidance, asserts that the most significant improvement that Hasler can bring to the Titans is a level of defensive grit that has been lacking in the past two seasons.

The Titans' defensive record has been a cause for concern, ranking fourth-worst in the Telstra Premiership for both the 2023 and 2022 seasons, conceding an average of 27.2 and 27.5 points per game, respectively.

This defensive weakness has been a major impediment to the Titans' success, despite their ability to score more points than teams that made it to the finals, such as the Roosters and Raiders.

The Canberra Raiders have ruled out a blanket "no" for their stars playing in off-season tournaments like the Koori Knockout.

Instead, they'll continue their policy of deciding on a case-by-case basis, despite the NRL writing to all clubs about their concerns of players suffering injuries.

Departing Raider Jack Wighton took part in this year's Koori Knockout on the Central Coast earlier in October.

New Zealand coach Michael Maguire has come under fire from rugby league legend Tony Kemp following speculation that he may take on the vacant NSW State of Origin role.

The NSWRL recently offered Maguire the opportunity to replace Brad Fittler as the Blues coach, but Maguire has yet to accept the offer.

He has made it clear that his priority lies with the New Zealand team, as he is "100 per cent going to the World Cup" with them in 2026.

However, if he were to take on the Blues role, he would also have to juggle his responsibilities as an assistant coach at the Canberra Raiders, making it a challenging task.
