Canberra halfback Jamal Fogarty says coach Ricky Stuart didn't seek his advice before moving Dally M-winning five-eighth Jack Wighton to the centres on the eve of the finals series.

Fogarty and Wighton had struck up a positive partnership in the halves over the past 18 months before Stuart shook things up in August by handing Matt Frawley the No. 6 jersey.

Wighton, who will leave Canberra for South Sydney next year, has had to make do at centre - where he last played regularly for Canberra in 2014 - taking over the position from the dropped Jarrod Croker.

This isn't how Jarrod Croker thought his career would end. A three-minute cameo against the Brisbane Broncos in round 26.

But if you'd offered that to the Canberra Raiders co-captain at the start of the season he would've bitten your arm off to get it.

Not that he's "packed up shop" just yet. He'll continue to prepare to play the Newcastle Knights in the NRL elimination final at Newcastle on Sunday.

Canberra have the unenviable task of facing Newcastle in their first home final since 2006 but Adam Elliott is warning that his ex-teammates will have no fear entering the in-form Knights' cauldron.
