  • The Real Highlight of the Raiders Victory on the Gold Coast

    Canberra Raiders halfback Ethan Sanders

Since the start of the 2026 season, new Raiders halfback Ethan Sanders has steadily forged his place in the team as Canberra's genuine on-field organizer, and Saturday's performance on the Gold Coast was arguably his most complete yet. More than the points or highlights, it was his control of the game - his composure, decision-making, and ability to steer the Raiders around the park - that stood out as the defining feature of the win.

From the opening exchanges, Sanders looked in command. After early errors from the Titans handed Canberra field position, he quickly capitalized, identifying space and linking with Simi Sasagi to open the scoring. It wasn't just the play itself, but the timing - recognizing when to strike - that highlighted his growing confidence as a chief playmaker.

That control extended across the first half. Sanders consistently put the Raiders into the right areas of the field, allowing players like Kaeo Weekes and Matthew Timoko to play off his direction. His kicking game and game management ensured Canberra maintained pressure, turning Titans mistakes into sustained attacking sets and building a 16-6 halftime lead.

What's been most impressive about Sanders' evolution this season is his composure under pressure, and that was again evident when the Titans threatened to swing momentum. Rather than forcing plays, he remained patient, guiding the Raiders through sets and waiting for opportunities to present themselves.

Early in the second half, he backed his instincts, slicing through the defensive line in a moment that nearly resulted in a try - a glimpse of his running threat that complements his organizational role. Moments later, he was again central to the Raiders' attacking execution, helping convert field position into points as Canberra extended their lead.

Even as the Titans fought back to close the gap to 22-12, Sanders' control never wavered. His ability to steady the side in tense moments, manage the tempo, and keep the team focused on completing sets proved crucial in shutting down any real comeback.

The finishing touches summed up his night. After Sebastian Kris sealed the result with a late intercept try, Sanders calmly slotted a difficult sideline conversion - a small moment that reinforced the confidence he's building as a reliable leader in key situations.

While the Raiders' seven straight wins over the Titans is an impressive statistic, the bigger takeaway from this performance is the continued rise of Sanders. His control of the team, more than any individual play, was the most pleasing aspect of the victory and a strong indicator of where Canberra's attack is heading.

As the Raiders return home to face the Penrith Panthers, they do so with a young halfback who is no longer just filling a role - but increasingly shaping how this side plays.

  • Raiders make big changes for 'Miracle in Mudgee' rematch against Panthers

The Penrith Panthers face an injury-stricken Canberra Raiders in a highly anticipated rematch this Sunday.

    The Canberra Times

The "Miracle of Mudgee" was one of the games of the season last year, and this Sunday the Penrith Panthers come to Bruce for a highly anticipated rematch against the injury-hit Canberra Raiders.

The Raiders had another squad shake-up for the weekend clash as another name was added to the injury list after their win over the Gold Coast Titans in round nine, while two big names returned.

Promising back-rower Joe Roddy has been ruled out for four to six weeks with a broken hand that required surgery on Tuesday. He now joins Raiders Josh Papali'i (calf), Noah Martin (ankles), and Zac Hosking (concussion) on the sidelines in rehab mode.

Hosking was still not quite right after his concussion a fortnight ago, but the Raiders are aiming to get him reassessed to possibly return for round 12's match against the Dolphins, following the bye next week.

  • 'These studies do not predict remaining useful life': But is Barr doing exactly that for the stadium?

Liberal MLA Peter Cain criticizes Andrew Barr for inconsistent claims about Canberra Stadium's lifespan and demands independent verification.

    The Canberra Times

Liberals MLA Peter Cain says Andrew Barr's Canberra Stadium responses don't add up.

On one hand, he says the ACT Chief Minister is using a maintenance plan to verify his 10-year stadium lifespan claim, while on the other stating the document doesn't "predict remaining useful life".

Cain's called on the ACT government to get independent verification of exactly how long the 49-year-old stadium has left.

It's been in the spotlight since a series of events, including leaking change rooms and a coach needing stitches after a window broke and cut his hand.
