Canberra hope to resolve their second-half woes when they battle in-form Newcastle at GIO Stadium on Saturday.

The fifth-placed Raiders are well positioned in the finals race but have a number of teams nipping at their heels, including the Knights who have  won three straight to move to 10th.

Ricky Stuart's men are looking to rectify one of their biggest bugbears this year - a poor second-half record in which they have been outscored by 24 tries - against the visitors.

They've conceded the first try of the second half in seven of their last eight games, with four of those coming inside the first five minutes.

It's taken a bit of time, but Zac Woolford finally believes that he belongs in the Raiders' top team.

Things looked grim for the 26-year-old when he started the season as their third choice hooker behind the more experienced Danny Levi and Tom Starling.

But instead of kicking stones, Woolford knuckled down and gradually established himself as the club's top No.9 for the run in to the finals.

The Canberra Raiders have landed a big boost ahead of their crucial clash against the Newcastle Knights with Tom Starling set to re-sign until the end of 2025.

Starling had an option for 2024, which he's taken up, and the Green Machine were just finalising the details to add another year to his contract on top of that.

It comes less than a week after the Raiders re-signed fellow hooker Danny Levi - also until the end of 2025 - and just days before their crunch game against the Knights at Canberra Stadium.
