Why Raiders star asked to be relegated to NSW Cup

Raiders winger Savelio Tamale voluntarily moves to NSW Cup to regain form and confidence after a recent performance.

    Zero Tackle

Raiders star Savelio Tamale has reached out to head coach Ricky Staurt to be dropped to NSW Cup to reclaim his spark and to get back to his brilliant-best after the side's win in Perth on Saturday.

A unique scenario where Tamale pulled up short just before scoring a long-range try spearheaded it, with many speculating if it was a showboating effort, or whether he just accidentally stumbled and almost bombed a 4-pointer.

Turns out the gifted winger just needs to reignite his kindle, with him and Stuart coming to the agreement that for the short-term success of the Raiders, it's best for the team if he goes back to NSW Cup to help regain confidence.

It is a courageous call from the young Dragons junior and shows great maturity to make a selfless decision like this.

The Raiders aim to rebound against the Bears after consecutive narrow losses in the NSW Cup.

    Canberra Raiders Club

The Toyota Forklifts Canberra Raiders NSW Cup side are desperate to turn things around this Sunday, when they take on the Bears at North Sydney Oval.

Canberra succumbed to their third loss by two points or less last Sunday afternoon, when the Knights slotted a 79th minute field goal to down the Raiders in Newcastle.

Chevy Stewart and Matt Timoko return to the backline in a big boost for the squad as they face a third placed Bears side.

North Sydney have enjoyed a strong start to the year, winning three in a row after dropping a round one loss to Penrith.

The last time these two teams met, the Bears comeback to defeat the Raiders 34-28 at North Sydney Oval in June last year.
