    Matthew Timoko discussed the stress of contract rumors during his recovery, but will stay with Canberra Raiders for another year.

    Canberra Raiders centre Matthew Timoko has opened up about the mental burden of swirling contract discussions, speaking out after finally making his long-awaited return to the NRL.

    While Timoko was stuck watching from the sidelines, nursing a foot injury picked up in the preseason and working his way back through the NSW Cup, rumours about his future ran wild.

    With his deal set to expire at season's end, albeit with club options for 2027 and 2028, whispers linking the Kiwi international to both the Perth Bears and the Warriors grew louder by the week.

    It was coach Ricky Stuart who eventually silenced the noise, confirming Timoko would remain in the nation's capital for at least another year.

    Raiders coach Ricky Stuart confirmed Matt Timoko is wanted until at least 2027, dismissing future speculation as he begins his first NRL start this season.

    Amid links to rival clubs, Raiders coach Ricky Stuart has dismissed doubts about Matt Timoko's future in the capital, and confirmed he's wanted for at least 2027, as the centre makes his first NRL start of the season.

    Timoko will resume his spot on the edge for the Raiders' match against the Melbourne Storm on Friday night, after Savelio Tamale was dropped to NSW Cup and Sebastian Kris was pushed to the wing.

    The round seven encounter will be Timoko's first start of 2026 after playing 20 minutes off the bench in round two's heavy loss to the Warriors.

    The 26-year-old New Zealand international has struggled to regain his starting position at centre from Simi Sasagi, who came in after Timoko suffered a pre-season injury setback.
