Souths fullback Jye Gray may miss two to three weeks due to an AC joint injury from a tackle against Canberra.

In-form Souths fullback Jye Gray is facing a stint on the sidelines after suffering an AC joint injury in the Rabbitohs' heart stopping two point loss to Canberra in Perth on Saturday afternoon.

Gray was tackled heavily by Raiders' middle Morgan Smithies and winger Jed Stuart in the first quarter of an hour of the clash, resting his arm in a makeshift sling made by his jersey as he left the field in obvious pain.

Souths' coach Wayne Bennett said he was expecting to be without the rising star for at least a few weeks.

"It's an AC joint so it's pretty sore," Bennett said.

"I've got to assume it will be two or three weeks at least."

Jye Gray's injury proved to be an instant problem for the Rabbitohs with the fullback set for an extended stint on the sideline after suffering a dislocated shoulder.

Gray fell on his shoulder while being tackled early in the first half during South Sydney's clash against the Raiders in Perth.

He was assisted from the field with his arm in a makeshift sling wrapped up in his jersey as the Rabbitohs were beaten 36-34 to the Raiders.

However the damage was instantly felt by South Sydney.

The injury forced a major reshuffle for the Rabbitohs with Latrell Mitchell moving to fullback and Tallis Duncan shifting from right edge back-rower to left centre.

Bronson Xerri views his NSW Cup demotion as motivation, aiming to fulfill his contract despite mixed reports about his future.

Bulldogs centre Bronson Xerri says his demotion to the NSW Cup was the "kick up the arse I needed" as he reaffirmed his desire to see out his current deal with the club despite reports he wanted a release.

Xerri, 25, was sensationally dropped after Canterbury's round one win in Las Vegas, with mixed reports that it was due to form, attitude or that he didn't want to play on the right edge after skipper Stephen Crichton was switched to the left.

He spent two games in reserve grade where he scored an early try against the Raiders as rumours swirled around his future, with coach Cameron Ciraldo initially disappointed with how Xerri reacted to his demotion but proud of the way he's responded.

It then looked like he'd fallen out of favour completely on Good Friday when Ciraldo brought Sean O'Sullivan on for Crichton instead of a specialist centre like Xerri, although it's since come out that Bulldogs medical staff didn't initially think the injury was too serious which is why they went that way.

Kaeo Weekes's spectacular try helped the Raiders secure a thrilling 36-34 victory over the Rabbitohs, despite a late comeback from South Sydney.

Kaeo Weekes has produced a try-of-the-year contender as the Canberra Raiders held off the fast-finishing South Sydney Rabbitohs to post a thrilling 36-34 NRL win in Perth. 

Simi Sasagi and Hudson Young combined brilliantly in the first half of Saturday's match at Optus Stadium to lift the Raiders to a commanding 24-4 lead by the break.

But three tries in nine minutes catapulted the Rabbitohs back into the contest, reducing the margin to just two points with 23 minutes remaining.
