Two of the brightest young halfbacks yet to make their NRL debuts have gone head-to-head for the second time in what promises to be a rivalry for years to come.

On Sunday at Belmore Sports Ground, fans were treated to a glimpse of the future as young playmakers Coby Black and Mitchell Woods lined up against one another in the 26-all clash between the Canterbury Bulldogs and Canberra Raiders.

Having previously faced one another in the Under-19s State of Origin arena, Woods struck first, producing brilliant footwork to score the opening try on his return to the field after more than 300 days sidelined with multiple hamstring injuries.

Combining perfectly with former schoolmate Alex Conti (three line-breaks and one try assist) in attack, Woods helped steer the Bulldogs around the park.

But his afternoon came to a heartbreaking end in the 53rd minute when he picked up another hamstring injury and had to leave the field.
