'Left a lasting impact': tributes flow as ACT rugby left heartbroken again

Mitchell Rainey is being remembered as someone whose spirit "left a lasting impact on those around him" as tributes flow among a rugby community left heartbroken again.
The Marist College Old Boys Association has shared a touching tribute to Rainey, who died aged 23 earlier this month.
Rainey played rugby at Marist College and the Tuggeranong Vikings, with the senior club sharing an image from his stint in the club's colts program.

Magic Round 2026 in Brisbane features 16 teams; Canberra Raiders lead, while St George Illawarra is winless.

Magic Round has arrived for 2026, with 16 teams to head to Brisbane for the biggest weekend of the regular season.
First held in 2019, the competition's biggest round has had six editions, with plenty of thrilling games and very few that have been low scoring.
Intriguingly, no team is undefeated, but it's the Canberra Raiders who have the best record by win percentage. The Melbourne Storm, despite only winning at 50 per cent, have the best for and against, while the St George Illawarra Dragons are the only winless team heading into the 2026 edition as they prepare to face the Penrith Panthers.

Raiders second-row crisis deepens with Simi Sasagi to miss significant time
Simi Sasagi will miss 4-6 weeks due to a shoulder injury, further impacting the depleted Canberra Raiders.

The Canberra Raiders have confirmed Simi Sasagi is set to miss at least a month after injuring his shoulder against the Penrith Panthers.
In a boost for the Raiders, scans showed the utility - who started the year at centre and has since moved to the second-row - has suffered no structural damage.
The shoulder injury, which was sustained during the first half of the loss to Penrith, will see him spend four to six weeks on the sidelines as it heals though.
One of the game's most in-form players, Sasagi's absence is another major blow to the Raiders who are already without Matty Nicholson, Josh Papalii, Joe Roddy, Xavier Savage, Noah Martin and Zac Hosking.
