Raiders hold out Shark attack to win on the road

Canberra Raiders ended their losing streak with a 24-20 win against Cronulla Sharks, marking their first victory there since 2019.

The Canberra Raiders snapped a losing run with a 24-20 road win over the Cronulla Sharks at Ocean Protect Stadium, their first victory there since 2019.

Canberra fell behind early when a penalty for obstructing the kick chase allowed Nicho Hynes to open the scoring with two points.

From another Sharks penalty after the restart, Braydon Trindall exploited space to chase his grubber and score the match's opening try.

Trindall's moment was cut short when he left the field with an apparent shoulder injury, forcing an early Cronulla interchange.

It was arguably the crowning achievement of Maguire's coaching career after he was brought in as Kevin Walters' replacement.

NRL updates: Cowboys lose to Eels 32-30, impacting finals race.

    ABC Sport

The race for the NRL's top eight is still alive after a controversial late penalty consigned North Queensland to a 32-30 loss to Parramatta at CommBank Stadium.

With a chance to lock in a finals spot beckoning, the Cowboys' defence crumbled on Saturday night, allowing in six Eels tries.

The defining moment then came with four minutes to play, when Mitch Moses set up for a Parramatta field goal with scores locked at 30-30.

The Eels halfback eventually ran it on the last, was ankle-tapped by Heilum Luki and spilled the ball forward while falling.
