Talk about a fall from grace for the Canberra Raiders.

In one of the most embarrassing twists of this NRL season, last year's minor premiers will face St George Illawarra on Sunday in a clash between the NRL's bottom two teams.

We can't exactly call it a spoon bowl play-off because the Raiders are six competition points clear of the Dragons and still have an extra bye up their sleeve.

Barring a complete disaster, the Raiders won't finish last.

But there is no escaping the reality that this has become a trainwreck of a season for Ricky Stuart's team that finished first on the ladder just eight months ago.

Less than nine months after being crowned minor premiers, the Canberra Raiders have continued to slip down the ladder after another "disappointing" loss over the weekend.

Falling to 16th place (second last) on the ladder, after suffering their tenth loss of the season, the Raiders' chances of making back-to-back finals campaigns are hanging by a thread.

Already past the mid-point of this year's campaign, time is starting to run out as they attempt to revive their season and mount a possible late charge at the back end of the season.

Asked about the club's chance of playing finals football, coach Ricky Stuart delivered a blunt response as they continue to search for answers.

"I don't know," Stuart said post-match after conceding their tenth loss of the season against the Melbourne Storm on Sunday afternoon.
