The Canberra Raiders have edged out the Melbourne Storm 26-22 in a gripping contest, but despite the result, coach Ricky Stuart was left with mixed emotions post-match.

Stuart praised his side's performance after what he described as their most complete showing of the season.

The Raiders started strongly, jumping out to a 12-0 lead and appearing in control early, only for momentum to swing at various points throughout the contest.

Plenty of smart judges have written the Storm off in the past and have been left with egg on their faces, but it's time to start making the omelette because the best team of the past two decades appears to be cooked.

The team that lost the past two grand finals started the year on fire with two huge wins, but a stack of injuries and key departures have finally caught up with the men in purple who have seemingly lost their aura.

Opposition teams no longer fear them and they can't rely on special plays from their superstar spine who don't have the forwards to give them room, nor the strike players out wide who can conjure something out of nothing.

This was a much better showing than what we saw from them last week when they were humiliated at home by the Warriors, with a lot more effort and some slick play from fullback Sua Fa'alogo who was clobbered high and forced off late.
