Raiders begin negotiations to lock down group of stars

The Canberra Raiders are making moves to lock down a cluster of stars before they are able to hit the open market on November 1 this year.
Josh Papali'i's looming departure at the end of the year has called for the club to ensure the future remains in good hands in the nation's capital.
It involves extending Ethan Sanders, Sebastian Kris, Xavier Savage and Joe Roddy, with fresh reports from the Canberra Times revealing talks have begun to lock the quadrant down before November.
Hudson Young also joins the list of players off-contract at the end of 2027 and will be free to speak to NRL rivals in November unless he is extended beforehand. Although it is understood that negotiations with the NSW Blues representative are positive and the club is hoping to re-sign him for two or three years.

Ricky Stuart has laid down an Origin-sized challenge to young gun Ethan Strange.
The Canberra Raiders coach says his 21-year-old five-eighth can stake a claim for the NSW Blues No.6 jersey over the next two weeks.
That starts against the Melbourne Storm in Melbourne on Sunday, with the Green Machine then taking on St George Illawarra at home next weekend.
Strange starred for the Blues in Origin I when he slotted in for an injured Mitchell Moses (hamstring) at five-eighth, scoring a try in NSW's win in the series opener.

Young update as Raiders open raft of contract talks to ward off NRL rivals
The Canberra Raiders are negotiating contract extensions for Hudson Young and other young players, while re-signing Jed Stuart.

Talks with Young have progressed, with the Green Machine looking to re-sign their future captain for another two or three years.
Young's one of a number of Raiders players off-contract at the end of next year, who will be free to talk to other clubs come November 1.
To stop that from happening, the Raiders have opened talks with Ethan Sanders, Sebastian Kris, Xavier Savage and Joe Roddy.
