Canberra Raiders fan Matt Ward's stadium petition gains 4,000 signatures; supported by ACT Liberals for formal inquiry.

    The Canberra Times

Say you want a revolution? You better get it on right away, as John Lennon said.

And Canberra Raiders fan Matt Ward's efforts to put power to the people has been given an almighty boost in the ACT Legislative Assembly this past week.

Ward's online Change petition calling for a new or revamped Canberra Stadium has gained momentum with 4000 signatures, but the ACT Liberals have now sponsored the Raiders supporter in another, more formal e-petition lodged with the Assembly.

"I met with Matt Ward and he asked me to sponsor an Assembly e-petition calling for a review of the fitness of the stadium, and whether there is a need for a new one," Member for Ginninderra Peter Cain told The Canberra Times.

  • Yeah, it's an April Fools joke. But this stadium idea is brilliant

    Melanie Dinjaski

A proposed stadium concept is dismissed as a joke, yet it's feasible if the ACT government creatively engages with the idea.

    The Canberra Times

They call this an April Fool's joke. We call it ... genius. Imagine turning up to a Brumbies or Raiders game with a view like this? Talk about iconic.

And the best part of this DNA Architects mock-up is that even though it was pitched as a prank, it's actually possible if the ACT government stops dragging its feet and gets creative.

Before everyone gets in a tizz - yes, we know this was an April fool's joke and, yes, in this AI age stadium concepts are a dime a dozen. And we know the ACT government has the Bruce blinkers on and says it won't consider Civic as a viable option, despite the existing stadium crumbling around us.
