  • Canberra star forward speaks publicly about his future

Hudson Young charged over hair pull, Pompey facing suspension

Hudson Young, off-contract next season, discusses contract negotiations as Raiders aim to secure him from rival clubs.

    Zero Tackle

Off-contract at the end of next season and free to negotiate with rivals from November 1 this year, Hudson Young has finally spoken publicly about his future.

With the Perth Bears and PNG Chiefs joining the competition and both still on the hunt for a marquee forward, it has led the Canberra Raiders to waste no time in making sure their star forward does not hit the open market.

It was reported in May that contract negotiations were underway to lock down Young long-term, but over a month later, the 27-year-old has now broken his silence.

"I'm not too sure where my management and the club are at, but I let them take over that," Young told The Canberra Times.

  • Ethan Strange shows he's the real deal and the hype is deserved

    Region Canberra

Praise can overwhelm young athletes; Ethan Strange shows promise despite limited experience, demonstrating growth in recent performances.

In writing about a 21-year-old athlete, it's important not only to maintain perspective but also to contemplate the impact of continual praise.

I have witnessed the downfall of plenty of young footballers who become consumed by their own greatness, fuelled by hyped media praise, only to come undone without the necessary life experience to handle the accolades and the fall.

In the case of 21-year-old Ethan Strange, I feel as though we are on solid territory, even though he has only played 56 NRL first-grade games for the Raiders.

His performance for NSW in the opening game of the Origin Series, and his follow-up in the Raiders' victory over North Queensland, show he has gone to another level in the space of a week.

    Hannah Neale

Burglars caused over $20,000 in damage at a heritage naval station, pleading guilty to aggravated burglary and property damage.

    The Canberra Times

Burglars caused more than $20,000 of damage when trying to rip copper wiring from the floor of a heritage-listed naval station building.

The four men, James Gary Taylor, Wayne Robert Blundell, Bradley Clyde Booth and Brendan Palmer, 31, all pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary in company and damaging Commonwealth property by joint commission.

The Belconnen Naval Transmitting Station, established in 1939, was integral to naval communications during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War, and played a significant role in defending the Australian mainland.

The Commonwealth heritage-listed site in Lawson is owned by Defence Housing Australia and the station was decommissioned in 2005.
