  • Raiders forward locks up new deal

Canberra Raiders open talks to extend young forward

The Canberra Raiders re-signed Ata Mariota to a contract lasting until the end of the 2028 NRL season.

    Zero Tackle

The Canberra Raiders have confirmed the re-signing of Ata Mariota through to the end of the 2028 NRL season.

Mariota, rated as one of the best young forwards in the game, has realised his potential in recent seasons, become a permanent part of Ricky Stuart's side in 2023 and never looked back.

The forward, able to play in the middle or on the edge, now has 87 games under his belt, and will only continue to see an increasing role in the coming years as some of Canberra's aging forward pack head for the exit.

Mariota's new contract takes him through to the end of 2028, with the two-year extension taking him off the open market and away from the eyes of expansion teams until at least November 1 next year.

Broncos lose out after axed player makes immediate $2.3m move as Bulldogs fave in concerning update

The Perth Bears will reportedly sign out-of-favour Raiders forward Corey Horsburgh with the Brisbane Broncos ruled out of the chase due to salary cap pressure. This comes as Jacob Preston's agent has revealed the offer from the Bulldogs was well away from what they expected with the second-rower potentially going to the open NRL market.

Horsburgh was left out of the Raiders squad to take on the Sharks this weekend after Stuart copped some backlash for his strongly worded press conference.

The Broncos were floated as a potential suitor for Horsburgh with the club having lost Payne Haas to the South Sydney Rabbitohs and Corey Jensen to retirement. Although the Bears have acted quickly reportedly set to confirm the Horsburgh deal as their latest signing.

The Raiders front-rower/lock is set to join Meninga's team on a three-year contract worth around $2.3 million, according to The Daily Telegraph. This is a boost from his current deal worth an estimated $650,000-a-year deal with the Raiders. The Broncos removed themselves from the race for the front-rower...

The Perth Bears continue their push for fielding a competitive side in Round 1 next year after Canberra Raiders forward Corey Horsburgh has agreed to terms with the expansion club.

News Corp is reporting Horsburgh has been tabled a three-year deal worth $2.3 million over three seasons to make the switch to the west coast.

Horsburgh will earn a reported $700,000 a season, with ratchet clauses in the contract to inflate his earnings following the record-breaking TV rights deal kicking into gear in 2028.

It is understood Horsburgh has been weighing up a move out of Canberra, with Brisbane Broncos being idenitifed as the preference.
