Songland Records will close its Ticketek agency in Canberra, ending in-person ticket sales after 30 years.

    The Canberra Times

The days of lining up in person to get tickets to a highly sought-after music concert or sporting event in Canberra will be over by the end of the week.

Songland Records in Cooleman Court has announced the in-store Ticketek agency will be shut off at 6pm on Friday.

For the last 30 years, Songland has operated the Ticketek agency at three different locations in Canberra and sold tickets in person to fans for thousands of events, from Taylor Swift concerts to Brumbies grand finals to Raiders finals games.

Songland Records owner Brian "Frog" Harris said it was his decision to no longer operate the Ticketek agency and he appreciated it was the end of an era.

Penrith scored a controversial try in their 42-18 win over Canberra, raising commentators' concerns during the match.

    Wide World of Sports

Penrith were awarded a controversial try in their dominant 42-18 win over the Raiders in a moment that had the commentators scratching their heads.

In a rematch from last year's famous "Miracle in Mudgee" between the two NRL rivals, it was Canberra who struck first through Matt Timoko - but from there it was one-way traffic as the Panthers flexed their premiership muscle.

"You just don't see tries that easy," Andrew Voss said on Fox League commentary, while Michael Ennis described it as "alarming" for the Panthers.

The ladder-leaders hit back when Nathan Cleary raced into open space and linked up with back-rower Liam Martin for a try.

  • John Bateman signs with former club

    NRL Rd 10 – Cowboys v Panthers

John Bateman returns to Bradford Bulls on a two-year deal, starting his career where he debuted in 2011.

    Zero Tackle

English international John Bateman will return to where it all started, signing a two-year-deal with the Bradford Bulls, with the club holding an option for a third season.

Bateman made his debut for the Bulls when he was 17 in 2011, progressing through the Bradford pathways and establishing himself as a true talent in his brief time there until 2013.

The 31-time British international is one of the few examples of English talent to earn himself a stint in the NRL and excel at the highest level, with an impressive two-season stint at the Canberra Raiders from 2019 where the Green Machine made it to the Grand Final.

Bateman had further spells at the Wests Tigers and North Queensland Cowboys, but couldn't capture the form he sustained in the nation's capital.
