The Brisbane Broncos have officially released young halfback talent Coby Black from his contract, paving the way for his new career opportunities.

Coby Black was once seen as a future contender for the Broncos' No.7 jersey, potentially succeeding Adam Reynolds. However, his future became uncertain after he decided to sign a two-year deal with the Canberra Raiders.

According to a report from The Canberra Times, Black is unlikely to see first-grade action with the Broncos in 2026. He has been granted a release to join the Raiders earlier than planned, despite originally committing to start with them in 2027.

The Brisbane Broncos have reportedly released young halfback prodigy Coby Black from the remainder of his contract, allowing him to kick-start the next chapter in his career.

Once earmarked as the future successor of Adam Reynolds in the No.7 jersey at the Broncos, Black's immediate future has been clouded since he agreed to sign with the Canberra Raiders on a two-year contract.

This comes after Raiders coach Ricky Stuart confirmed that the current Under-19s QLD Maroons captain was "very keen" to join the club as soon as possible and contend with Ethan Sanders for the halfback jersey immediately.

"There's a lot of talk about it, and there has been some movement," Stuart told SEN 1170 Mornings.

Manaia Waitere joins Melbourne Storm after leaving Canberra Raiders; Sione Finau aims to prove himself.

    LeagueNews.co

Manaia Waitere made his NRL debut in Round 27 of the 2025 season and has reportedly signed with a new team after receiving an immediate release from the Canberra Raiders. Originally meant to be part of the Raiders' Top 30 roster for 2026, The Daily Telegraph has stated that Waitere's contract with the Raiders has been terminated, allowing him to join the Melbourne Storm for the upcoming season. This move aims to bolster the Storm's depth in the outside backs and halves positions.

Waitere, a junior from Cronulla, joined the Raiders at the beginning of 2024 and quickly became a notable player in their NSW Cup team. However, he struggled to secure a consistent role in the first-grade squad.

In contrast, recruit Sione Finau is eager to prove himself at the Canberra Raiders after transitioning from the St George Illawarra Dragons. Although Finau has mostly played as a winger in recent seasons, he is open to any position in the outside backs and is looking to challenge current centres Matthew Timoko and Sebastian Kris.
