During the NRL Fan Fest, a fervent supporter brought attention to an intriguing narrative ahead of the grand final between the Broncos and the Storm at Accor Stadium. Broncos coach Michael Maguire, known for his impressive coaching journey, looks forward to facing off against his former mentor, Craig Bellamy.

Maguire's coaching career began under Bellamy in Melbourne, after which he ventured to England, where he achieved his first premiership victory with Wigan in 2010. He later led South Sydney to their own grand final success. As he prepares for the big match, he's eager to outmaneuver the coach who initially guided him.

In an interesting revelation, Bellamy shared that he was the one who recruited Maguire from schoolboy rugby union and coached him at the Canberra Raiders, adding a personal twist to their competitive dynamic.

The Australian Kangaroos have been put on notice by their opposing nations in 2025, with multiple stars pledging allegiance to their heritage this year.

It has been reported that Brisbane Broncos fullback Reece Walsh, Sydney Roosters winger Mark Nawaqanitawase, Cronulla Sharks captain Blayke Brailey, Canterbury Bulldogs second-rower Jacob Preston, Newcastle Knights centre Bradman Best, South Sydney Rabbitohs forward Keaon Koloamatangi and Canberra Raiders half Ethan Strange are all set to make their Kangaroos debut under Walters this year.

Staggs and Koloamatangi are two key inclusions, following doubts around their desire to represent the Kangaroos due to their international ties to Tonga.

The Dally M Awards faced a lukewarm reception from fans after the recent broadcast, reflecting a sentiment echoed by some of the league's prominent figures.

Although Ricky Stuart, the Coach of the Year from the Canberra Raiders, and nominee Cameron Ciraldo from the Canterbury Bulldogs were present, they represented a dwindling number of attendees.

This year's ceremony marks one of the lowest turnouts for coaches in recent memory, indicating a significant cultural shift regarding one of the NRL's hallmark events.
