    ‘Got to put the handlebars down’: Why Ricky will decide Croker’s place in NRL history books

    Ricky Stuart has a decision to make on Jarrod Croker - and it'll decide whether the Raiders veteran goes down in the rugby league history books as a good, or a great player.

    Croker will run out for his 300th NRL game on Friday night and eventually retire a one-club legend, that much is for sure.

    What remains to be seen is just when that retirement date will be.

    The 32-year-old was at long odds to play another NRL game - let alone chalk up his 300th - heading into 2023, the fourth and final year of his current contract.

    Jarrod Croker has identified former wild child Todd Carney as the first person who taught him how to be a professional sportsman.

    Carney and Croker, who celebrates 300 games for the Raiders on Friday evening, have known each other for more than 20 years, since they were youngsters growing up in Goulburn.

    Now 37 and running league programs for disadvantaged youngsters on the Gold Coast, Carney will be one of the thousands of fans who pack into GIO Stadium to celebrate Croker's special occasion and will be spending the night at his former teammate's home after the game.
