We love the mighty Canberra Raiders
Peter Sterling once said he would give every representative jersey away if it meant winning a grand final. Luckily for Sterlo, he won four. Jack Wighton is yet to break his duck.
The World Cup winner has become a mainstay in the representative arena and has Dally M and Clive Churchill medals to his name, but the Canberra Raiders five-eighth is entertaining a move elsewhere to chase a premiership before his career ends.
At Raiders headquarters on Wednesday, there wasn't one person happier about finally being able to sign NRLW players than Canberra coach Darrin Borthwick.
It was over a month ago the NRL and Rugby League Players' Association agreed to financial terms for the women's collective bargaining agreement.
However until this week clubs had been unable to contract players while the finer details of the CBA were still being confirmed.
Almost every club in the NRL will throw their hat in the ring to chase Jack Wighton's signature as the Canberra Raiders star prepares to go on the market for the first time in 14 years.
His management team has reportedly been taking calls for the past 24 hours after The Canberra Times revealed on Tuesday Wighton had opted not to take up a one-year extension option in his current deal.
It sparked questions about the reasons behind the decision. It will likely be the most lucrative contract of Wighton's career, so he wants to upgrade the $900,000 he was expected to earn in Canberra next year.
