We love the mighty Canberra Raiders
Elliott Whitehead's international career could be over. It's why the Canberra Raiders co-captain was so emotional following England's Rugby League World Cup exit.
The star second-rower hasn't officially retired. He just felt like this World Cup could be the last time he represents his country.
The news comes as Raiders teammate Jordan Rapana expected new Canberra assistant coach Michael Maguire to add a hard edge to the Green Machine.
Queanbeyan sports caller Stephen Peios is still pinching himself he's made it to the World Cup, and he can make Canberra proud when he leads FIFA's match-day presentation team at the iconic tournament.
That could involve dropping a cheeky "up the milk" during the many blockbuster fixtures he's set to be the ground announcer for in Qatar, including the World Cup final.
"I could definitely try it for the mighty Raiders if the opportunity presented itself," Peios joked.
The Canberra Raiders have begun their pre-season training as they try to advance higher than last year's semi-final placing.
Hooker Tom Starling revealed he is happy to be back training and "missed all the boys" during the off-season break.
Starling had a breakout year last season, featuring in all of the club's 26 games. In his time on the field, he made 768 tackles at an efficiency rate of 93.9%. He also made 1702 passes in the dummy-half position.
