Josh Papalii scored a fairytale double as he became the most-capped player in Canberra history and lifted the Raiders to a gritty come-from-behind win over South Sydney.

Chants of "Papa" rang through GIO Stadium after the Raiders legend's two late tries, before Papalii converted his second himself to put the icing on a 36-12 victory and send the Raiders to the top of the NRL ladder on Sunday.

In a huge boost star halfback Jamal Fogarty returns for the Raiders ahead of their clash with the Rabbitohs on Sunday afternoon, which marks a record-breaking appearance for Josh Papalii.

South Sydney also welcome back Cody Walker and Jack Wighton in a big boost for Craig Bellamy.

The front row enforcer will become the most-capped Raiders player of all time when he runs out at GIO Stadium, overtaking Jason Croker's 318 games.

Ricky Stuart's Canberra outfit are riding high with three wins in-a-row coming against the Titans, Warriors and most recently the Roosters.
