  • 'Sad to see Big Red go': Raiders open up on the other farewell happening at Papa's House

    David Polkinghorne

Josh Papalii's farewell game highlights the departure of Corey Horsburgh, with young players set to step up for the Raiders.

    The Canberra Times

While Papa's House is all about Papa's farewell, it'll also be another long-term Raider's Canberra farewell.

Raiders captain Joe Tapine and hooker Tom Starling both said Corey Horsburgh would be missed next year, when he'll join the Perth Bears on a three-year deal.

But Tapine was excited by some young players getting the chance to step up and replace Josh Papali'i, who will retire at the end of the season, Morgan Smithies (Bears) and Horsburgh.

Horsburgh will play his final home game at Canberra Stadium against the Brisbane Broncos on Friday night.

A crucial meeting will determine Hudson Young's future with the Raiders, as he seeks permission to negotiate with the Papua New Guinea Chiefs.

    The Canberra Times

A key meeting this week in Canberra is set to be the most pivotal in Hudson Young's career, as the Raiders mull over whether or not to give the star back-rower permission to negotiate with the Papua New Guinea Chiefs.

Ahead of the Green Machine's huge clash with the Brisbane Broncos on Friday night, Young's manager will be meeting with Raiders chief executive Don Furner in the capital to discuss his future.

Young is under contract with the Raiders until the end of 2027, but from November 1 the 28-year-old will be permitted to speak with other clubs.

The Raiders have made it clear they want to re-sign Young to a long-term deal for 2028 and beyond.

Josh Papali'i is cleared to play in his farewell match for the Raiders against the Broncos, marking his 341st NRL game.

    The Canberra Times

Josh Papali'i, his teammates, coaches and Canberra Raiders fans can breathe a sigh of relief.

The departing veteran forward has been cleared to play for the Green Machine against the Brisbane Broncos on Friday night in the final Raiders home game of the season, which doubles as Papali'i's Canberra farewell.

Papali'i was put on report in the Raiders' 24-20 victory over the Cronulla Sharks on Saturday for high contact, but the club great did not appear on the match review committee charge sheet on Sunday.

The Bruce fixture is set to be the 34-year-old's 341st NRL game and this week Papali'i is expected to provide more clarity on his next move after he leaves Canberra this season to either play on elsewhere, or retire.
