Economic impact studies are routinely carried out by Canberra sports organisations and the ACT Government.

The figures are used as part of negotiations as sports seek funding to stage events while the government uses the studies to guide decision-making associated with the economic impact on the ACT economy.

Over the years we have seen estimates on the impact to the ACT economy from the Brumbies, Kanga Cup, Masters Games, the racing industry, Raiders, AFL and cricket.

The Canberra Raiders are riding high at the moment as the ACT's premier sporting attraction, with crowds well ahead of both the Brumbies and the Giants.

Ethan Sanders' path to Raiders' starting halfback role becomes uncertain with recent departures and signings.

A month ago, following the departure of Jamal Fogarty to Manly, Ethan Sanders probably felt as though he had a 'rails run' for the Raiders' number seven jersey for 2026.

Twenty-one-year-old Sanders joined the Raiders from Parramatta at the end of the 2024 season as part of a succession plan with Fogarty in the twilight of his playing career.

The Raiders had hoped Fogarty would be around for one more season, but the lure of a two-year deal from the Sea Eagles proved to be impossible to ignore.

The departure of Adam Cook to the UK Super League further depleted the Raiders' halfback ranks, prompting the signing of young Broncos playmaker Coby Black.

Manly halfback Jamal Fogarty believes it's "disrespectful" to compare himself to Daly Cherry-Evans, with the veteran recruit saying he won't try to replicate how the former Manly skipper played.

The Sea Eagles begin a new era in 2026 with Tom Trbojevic as captain and Fogarty coming across from the Raiders to replace Cherry-Evans, who spent 15 years in the Manly No.7 jersey but opted to finish his career with the Roosters.

The 31-year-old signed a three-year deal to leave Canberra, who was eliminated without winning a finals game in 2025, despite sitting at the top of the ladder for a large part of the season.
