    At a time when the Canberra Raiders need some good injury news, they've gotten a boost in the return of their first-choice halves for one final crack.

    Halfback Jamal Fogarty (hamstring) and five-eighth Ethan Strange (calf) have both been named to face St George Illawarra at Kogarah on Saturday.

    They need to thrash the Dragons and then pray for a rugby league miracle to play finals - with the best chance coming from a draw between Newcastle and the Dolphins.

    Canberra crowd favourite Elliott Whitehead has likely played his last game in the NRL after deciding not to contest a three-game ban for a hip-drop tackle on Sydney Roosters hooker Brandon Smith.

    The 34-year-old is bound for Catalans Dragons in the Super League at season's end and the Raiders are all but guaranteed to miss finals, needing to beat St George Illawarra and hope Newcastle draw with the Dolphins in the final round of the season.

    Raiders captain makes suspension call

    Whitehead takes plea, out 3 games. Must make finals for possible return to Raiders.

    The Canberra Raiders will have to make the preliminary final for captain Elliott Whitehead to play for them again.

    He's decided to take the early guilty plea on all three of his charges to come out of the Green Machine's stunning win over the Sydney Roosters on Sunday.

    He'll miss the next three games, with any games left of the suspension to carry over to the English Super League when he joins Catalans next year.
