The Canberra Raiders will close out the round on Sunday evening against the South Sydney Rabbitohs in a contest with major ramifications on both sides hopes of featuring in September.

Breaking a run of losses with a sorely-needed win at home last Friday, the Canberra Raiders will be determined to rise to the occasion as captain Elliott Whitehead become only the 15th man to play 200 NRL games for the club.

Holding off the Warriors - despite being outscored four tries to three - most recently, coach Ricky Stuart has stuck solid with the same squad despite only using 16 players in the 20-18 victory.

Canberra Raiders officials are considering plans to celebrate Josh Papali'i's 300^th game at Belmore as the club weighs up whether to rest the veteran prop and allow him to reach the milestone on home turf.

Papali'i - who plays his 299th game for when the Raiders host South Sydney at Canberra Stadium on Sunday - is on the verge of becoming the third man to play 300 games for Canberra.

The 32-year-old is on track to reach the milestone against Canterbury when the Bulldogs go back Belmore in round 22.

Rugby league legend Mal Meninga hopes his return to Canberra can help dispel some negative stereotypes about living in the nation's capital.

Meninga will serve as a mentor at the club he won three premierships with, helping out across recruitment and retention, pathways development and as a brand ambassador, the Raiders announced on Wednesday.

Already living in Canberra and having maintained a close bond with former teammate and current coach Ricky Stuart, the Immortal said it was a no-brainer to take the role when CEO Don Furner called him up.
