    A horror week of injuries in the NRL continued in bizarre fashion when a Canberra young gun suffered bad burns to his arm.

    Albert Hopoate will miss the round four game against Cronulla on Sunday after a backyard barbecue accident.

    The 23-year-old was reportedly at teammate Corey Harawira-Naera's house when a gas cannister next to the barbecue exploded.

    Canberra outside back Albert Hopoate suffered severe burns to his right arm when an oil can behind a barbecue exploded - then he asked coach Ricky Stuart if he could still train the next day.

    Hopoate has been ruled out of Sunday's clash against Cronulla because of the accident.

    This masthead obtained footage of the 23-year-old's blistered and swollen right arm.

    Albert's father John said his son was at teammate Corey Harawira-Naera's house on Monday night when the accident happened.

    Freak BBQ accident sidelines Raiders star for Sharks clash

    Canberra Raiders player Albert Hopoate ruled out of game due to cooking accident injuries.

    The Canberra Raiders suffered a shock blow to start the week with youngster Albert Hopoate ruled out for Sunday's clash against the Cronulla Sharks after a cooking accident.

    Hopoate didn't train on Tuesday following an oil fire on Monday night while cooking on his barbecue at home. The incident left him with "minor burns", mainly on his right arm.

    After being assessed by Raiders medical staff, the 23-year-old was omitted from Canberra's lineup this weekend, with his injuries needing time to heal. It's expected he will be fit to play in round five.
