Corey Horsburgh faces an $1800 fine for slapping Dane Gagai; other players face fines for various infractions.

    The Canberra Times

Ricky Stuart slapped down Corey Horsburgh for his ill-discipline on Sunday and now the NRL match review committee has followed suit.

Horsburgh's been offered an $1800 fine for an early guilty plea for slapping Newcastle centre Dane Gagai.

If he fights the grade-one contrary conduct charge and loses then he'll be fined $2500.

While he's avoided a suspension for his costly slap, it might not save Horsburgh from getting dropped for the Raiders' next game - against Cronulla at Shark Park on Saturday.

  • Broncos urged to backflip on signing Raiders star after costly "brain explosion"

Broncos urged to backflip on signing State of Origin player after costly NRL 'brain explosion'

Broncos fans doubt pursuing Corey Horsburgh after his crucial sin-bin cost Raiders against Newcastle.

    Yahoo! Sport

Broncos fans are questioning the club's reported pursuit of Corey Horsburgh after the Raiders forward was sin-binned in their NRL loss to Newcastle on Sunday. Horsburgh was given 10 in the bin with just seven minutes remaining, allowing the Knights to prevail 30-24.

The score was 26-24 when the Raiders were awarded a penalty near the posts that would have allowed them to level it at 26-26. But the Bunker official found that Horsburgh had struck Dane Gagai in the head with an open hand and he was sin-binned as a result.

Speaking after the match, Canberra coach Ricky Stuart was fuming over Horsburgh's indiscretion. "We should have gone 26-all and there was a brain explosion. It was a f***ing brain explosion, and we lost the opportunity," Stuart said.

"There was one last week or the week before with Alex Twal. Everyone knows you're not allowed to do that. We lost the start of the season because we were self-entitled and undisciplined and we lost the opportunity to continue trying to make the semis."

  • Ricky Stuart blasts "f***ing brain explosion"

    Corey Horsburgh

Ricky Stuart criticized Corey Horsburgh's sin bin as a "brain explosion," blaming it for Canberra Raiders' loss to Newcastle.

    Fox League

An irate Ricky Stuart has blasted Corey Horsburgh's costly sin bin as a "fu***** brain explosion", blaming it for the loss to Newcastle.

Down by four points with less than ten minutes to go in the contest, the Canberra Raiders were given a golden opportunity to level the scores after referee Ashley Klein awarded a penalty against the Knights.

However, within a matter of seconds, the call was overturned after the Bunker reviewed the footage and it was deemed that Horsburgh struck Dane Gagai.

The decision not only sent the former Queensland Maroons representative to the sin bin - leaving the Raiders one man short - but it ultimately cost the club any hopes of reaching this year's finals series.
