Roosters coach Trent Robinson chooses Sandon Smith to replace Luke Keary at five-eighth position.

Roosters coach Trent Robinson has made his call on who will replace Luke Keary after the five-eighth failed to finish round two after a head knock against Manly.

Sandon Smith has been named in the No.6 jersey for the Roosters grudge match against Souths with Connor Watson making his way back into the side on the bench. 

The coach may have had some temptation to move Joey Manu into the five-eighth role, where he's played before, but ultimately decided upon keeping combinations strong on the edge.

Canberra Raiders lead NRL ladder, heading to Christchurch for team camp after strong wins.

The Canberra Raiders are flying high after 16 and 20-point wins to open the 2024 season and now they've embarked on a week-long camp in Christchurch from Monday to help keep that form going.

For the first time since round six of 2005 the Raiders sit atop the NRL ladder after a round, and the winless Warriors await next on Friday night.

The opportunity to go on an extended away trip after some new off-season additions was something fullback Jordan Rapana was excited about, as well as the chance to bond over a round or two of golf.

Zac Hosking impresses, could replace injured captain in starting role for Canberra Raiders. Whitehead returning soon.

Canberra Raiders recruit Zac Hosking is only two games into his three-year contract but has already made a strong case to unseat captain Elliott Whitehead in the starting role in the second row.

A fortnight ago Whitehead dropped out of the 17 and was reportedly set to miss three to four weeks with a calf injury.

However, there is a chance the Englishman could return as early as this Friday night - which would be two-and-a-half weeks - when the Raiders face the Warriors in Christchurch, depending on how he's tracking in the coming days in New Zealand.
