The Raiders are working on keeping a promising back rower in the nation's capital amid uncertainty around Hudson Young's future.
Young rejected the Raiders' latest $3.3 million offer and is set to negotiate with the PNG Chiefs, a strong indication he could leave Canberra at the end of next season.
In the mean time, the Raiders are shifting their focus on locking down young English forward Matty Nicholson, according to Code Sports.
Talks between the two parties have reportedly intensified over the last week.
The 23-year-old has impressed when he's seen the field since arriving at the start of last season.

Rugby league requires 60 NRL-standard players for two new teams, raising concerns about the depth of emerging talent.

Rugby league will need to produce at least another 60 NRL-standard players to fill the rosters of the Perth Bears and PNG Chiefs in the next two seasons.
But a brief look at the rookie of the year contenders would be enough to have fans wondering if there is enough young talent coming through to sustain a healthy, expanded NRL.
That is not to question the quality at the top of this year's rookie class, but the depth is a real concern.

The top eight is really starting to take shape now, with the Bulldogs and Sea Eagles up against it to make the finals
The Storm and Raiders, meanwhile, were officially eliminated on the weekend after losses to the Panthers and Broncos.
So, while plenty of teams are still competing for glory in 2026, what about those who are already starting to plan towards next year?
Here, I look at the big question for the bottom nine teams in the competition.
