‘Sick of summing them up’: Big question leaves Storm ‘lost’ as Bellamy vents over slump

Craig Bellamy criticized his team's inconsistency after a fifth straight loss, despite leading at halftime against the Raiders.

    Fox League

Craig Bellamy was frustrated with his side's inconsistency after the Storm slumped to their fifth straight defeat in a 26-22 loss to the Raiders in Round 7.

The Storm led 16-12 at half-time, but were again run down to lose five straight games for the first time since 2012, when ironically they went on to win the title that year.

"I'm sort of sick to summing them up actually," Bellamy said.

"We've done a lot of good things out there tonight, but we've done some things that really cost us as well, so it's just inconsistent would be the best word to describe it, I would imagine."

Bellamy was fuming his side should have gone up by 10 after half-time, but let the Raiders score at the other end to get themselves back in the game after a Simi Sasagi intercept.

  • 'It's hard to cheer': Ricky fumes at no try call amid 'completely different' rules in Raiders win

‘It’s hard to cheer’: Ricky fumes at no try call amid ‘completely different’ rules in Raiders win

Ricky Stuart expressed frustration over officiating and ruck interpretation after the Raiders' 26-22 win over the Storm.

    Fox League

Ricky Stuart was frustrated with a number of calls and the ruck interpretation in the Raiders' 26-22 victory over the Storm in Round 7.

The Raiders led 12-0, but could have been further ahead if Hudson Young wasn't denied a try for an accidental off-side that seemed a tough call.

"What stands out to me is after the back end of the season last year, it's very hard to cheer after a try," Stuart said in his post match press conference.

"I find it myself, I used to go off like a bloody idiot, scoring tries and whatnot. Unless it's an intercept or whatnot, it's hard to cheer because you think, oh well okay, was he onside? Did he hit him high? I mean, I suppose that's what the bunker's there for."

Stuart was pressed what goes through his head when he saw the Hudson Young no try call.

  • Young facing two-game ban in major blow after 'invincible' Sasagi stars

    Caden Helmers

Hudson Young faces a potential two-match ban for a high tackle, impacting the Raiders' upcoming games against the Tigers and Titans.

    The Canberra Times

Hudson Young is staring down the barrel of a two-match ban in a major blow to the Canberra Raiders as they prepare to meet the in-form Wests Tigers at the eighth wonder of the world.

Young has been hit with a grade two careless high tackle charge for a shot on Melbourne livewire Sua Faalogo in the 78th minute of the Raiders' win over the Storm at Canberra Stadium on Friday night.

The Raiders star will be banned for two games if he enters an early plea, but would face a three-game suspension if he fights the charge and loses.

‘A lot of players wouldn’t do that’: Startling act shows ‘what Sticky’s built’ as Raiders ready for Storm

Tom Starling praised teammate Savelio Tamale's selfless demotion for team success, highlighting Canberra's strong culture ahead of their match against Melbourne.

    Fox League

Raiders hooker Tom Starling has praised the selfless act of a teammate who requested his own demotion from first grade, saying it highlights the ultimate team-first culture built under Ricky Stuart.

Canberra host the Melbourne Storm on Friday night, with Starling believing his team can banish the demons of last year's NRL finals heartache and get their 2026 season underway in earnest with a victory.

The Raiders will be without winger Savelio Tamale, who approached Stuart mid-week requesting to be dropped to NSW Cup while he rekindles his confidence.

Starling joined the chorus of Canberra support for a young player putting the team ahead of himself.

"We all love Sav, he's going to have a stellar career and he's going to be an international," Starling reflected. "He's got a big career ahead of him. He will be back, he will get his confidence back up and will be back with us in no time," Starling told foxsports.com.au.

Ricky Stuart criticized the NRL's bunker for ruining try celebrations, highlighting two denied tries during the Raiders' 26-22 victory over Melbourne.

    The Canberra Times

Coach Ricky Stuart has taken aim at the NRL's bunker, saying it's become too hard to celebrate a try after Canberra were denied twice because of the video referee.

The Raiders stayed strong to defeat Melbourne 26-22 at GIO Stadium on Friday night, and although Stuart labelled it the best 80 minutes of the Green Machine's season, he was left fuming at the bunker.

It came after Hudson Young looked like he had scored in the opening minutes, but his try was scratched after a lengthy review found an accidental offside.

Zac Hosking's late four-pointer was also chalked off after Young had tackled Storm fullback Sua Fa'alogo high in the lead-up.
