Alan Tongue, a Canberra Raiders legend, was inducted into the hall of fame for his impact on and off the field.

The Canberra Times

Whether it was trying to reduce domestic violence or working with disadvantaged youths to get their lives back on track, Alan Tongue's toughness on the football field helped the Canberra Raiders legend deal with tough situations off it.

And given some of his Voice Against Violence work was done in Papua New Guinea, it seems fitting he's being inducted into the Raiders hall of fame - just as the PNG Chiefs have started to sign players ahead of their 2028 entrance into the NRL.

Tongue and Jay Hoffman, a member of the inaugural Green Machine and the first player to reach 100 games for the club, were inducted into the hall of fame on Friday night.

Hoffman played 111 games for the Raiders from 1982-87 - including the club's very first, against South Sydney.
