With four straight wins under their belt, the Sharks will ramp up their pursuit of a top-four berth when they tackle the Dragons in a Saturday afternoon local derby at Jubilee Stadium.

Cronulla showcased one of their best attacking displays recently, clinching a 32-12 victory over the Cowboys despite challenging weather conditions last weekend. This puts them just two competition points behind the fourth-placed Warriors.

Facing them is a St George Illawarra team that's energized by an 18-12 upset against the first-place Raiders, exhibiting performance levels that defy their 12th-place position.

  • Sharks Coach Defends 'Soft' NRL Draw Amid Finals Chaos

Sharks coach hits back at uproar over 'soft' NRL draw as Broncos carnage rocks finals race

Sharks coach Craig Fitzgibbon defends team's challenging season amid speculation on upcoming matches.

Sharks coach Craig Fitzgibbon has strongly countered claims that the Sharks have a simplified end to their regular NRL season. He emphasized the challenges his team faced earlier in the year, especially following the recent news about the triple-injury carnage for the Broncos, which has opened up the finals race.

This Saturday, the Sharks will face St George Illawarra in a local derby at Jubilee Stadium. Depending on the outcomes of other matches, particularly if the Knights can defeat reigning champions Penrith, the Sharks have the chance to move into fourth place.

Despite the speculation on their draw, Fitzgibbon pointed out that Cronulla's upcoming matches provide them a solid path to a top-four finish. They won't be traveling outside Sydney for their last five games, benefit from a guaranteed two points from a bye, and are scheduled to meet only one current top-eight team, the Bulldogs.

A new deal between the Canberra Raiders and Simi Sasagi is reportedly "all but done" with the utility set to become the latest player to sign a long-term contract, which will keep him at the nation's capital.

Over the past few years, the Raiders have undergone an extensive roster rebuild, acquiring several of the best up-and-coming players while releasing some of their veterans, including Jack Wighton and Jordan Rapana.

After entering extension talks with the Raiders in the middle of July, The Daily Telegraph reports that Sasagi has now agreed to a new two-year deal with the club, which will keep him at the nation's capital until the end of 2028.
